Who we are
At A Marbled Purpose, I believe every person is like veined marble—unique, complex, and full of possibility. Inspired by philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, who used the natural patterns in marble to describe human potential, I see those veins as a reflection of the experiences, strengths, challenges, and relationships that shape each of us. No two pieces of marble develop in exactly the same way, and no two people follow the same path.
I’m Dr. Amanda Sharpe, a California-licensed psychologist (PSY #35542), Nationally Certified School Psychologist, and holder of a California Pupil Personnel Services credential. For more than a decade, I have worked alongside children, adults, families, and educators throughout Northern California and Hawaii—as a teacher, behavior specialist, school psychologist, therapist, coach, and assessor. These experiences have given me a practical understanding of how learning, development, mental health, behavior, and family life intersect.
Over the course of my career, I have conducted hundreds of assessments involving concerns such as Autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, anxiety, and depression. I have also provided hundreds of hours of counseling, clinical support, and coaching to individuals and families; conducted private psychological and educational assessments; supported parents; and supervised doctoral-level trainees at different stages of their professional development.
In addition to my clinical and school-based work, I have taught at a local university for the past five years across its doctoral psychology, counseling, and school psychology programs. Teaching keeps me connected to emerging research and allows me to contribute to the development of future mental health and educational professionals.
I am also the mother of five wonderfully different children, and much of what I bring to this work has been shaped by my own experiences as a parent navigating education. Our family has experienced a wide range of learning environments—including private homeschooling, charter-based homeschooling, and traditional public schools—and we have celebrated the successes and worked through the challenges found within each. My children bring their own diverse learning profiles, including dyslexia, ADHD, and giftedness, along with an equally varied collection of interests and strengths—from books and art to engineering, baking, cheer, and everything in between. These experiences have given me a deeply personal understanding of how much parents invest in finding the right support for their children and how important it is for every child to be seen as a whole person rather than a diagnosis, score, or school label.
I created A Marbled Purpose to offer thoughtful, personalized care grounded in both evidence and real-world experience. Whether you are seeking answers through assessment, support through counseling, guidance as a parent, or a clearer understanding of yourself or your child, my goal is to help you make sense of the full picture—not simply apply a label. Together, we can identify strengths, understand challenges, and shape a path toward greater well-being, confidence, and purpose.
